Welcome to Foggview City. This is a family-friendly theme park land placed fourth in the 2019 Cornell Themed Park Design Competition. Working with Robert Ketchum (Aerospace Engineering major), Sol Markarian (Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts major), and Jared Walker (Mechanical Engineering major), we created a 1930’s noir city that plays on the tropes of private investigators and spies. Our hope was to immerse guests to be either of those characters (or even a double agent) by pulling them into an environment never seen in a theme park before. Noir is something the four of us hold dear to our hearts, so this opportunity to bring it to life was thrilling for us.

The year is 1930. It was a dark and stormy night in Foggview City. Everything was quiet... too quiet. At the dock, Private Investigator Bob “Bobby” Roberts awaits for a delivery for his boss, Dale. He is retrieving a recipe that will put Dale’s diner ahead of his brother Hank’s fancy restaurant. It is dropped off to him when suddenly, spy Violet Scorch swings in and tries to take it from him to give to Hank! A car chase ensues. And the secret recipe is for...chocolate chip cookies! Using our story of the attraction as a base point, this themed land revolves around the "spies versus private investigators" aspect and encourages guests to engage with both sides.

My main focus on this competition was creating the development deliverable. This document ties together all the deliverables we submitted and includes a clear introduction of how we used our attractions to communicate the story. This also required project management on my end.

Aside from one of our shows, our themed-land is indoors and includes technology and interactive elements not seen before. The goal was for us to use all this technology to take guests back to a time period without it, transporting them to the rainy city landscape of a noir movie. The land includes a ride (technically two), two restaurants, an indoor daytime show, an outdoor nighttime show, and many immersive activities for all ages. It also includes many photo ops to take guests into the pages of noir comics.

I also assisted Sol with concept art. Using my skills from my internship with DC Entertainment, I created the panel layout and caption boxes for each image. I also created panel 1 (the comic book cover), panel 8 (the cars on the bridge) and our logo. Click the image to view the PDF!
